Best Time to Visit Bhutan: A Season-by-Season Guide

By Tshering DorjiJanuary 20, 2026

Bhutan's climate varies dramatically by season, each offering unique experiences and challenges.

Spring (March-May): Blooming rhododendrons paint the valleys in vibrant colors. Clear skies and comfortable temperatures make this ideal for trekking. This is peak season, so expect more tourists.

Summer (June-August): Monsoon rains can make trekking difficult, but fewer tourists mean better hotel availability. The landscape is lush and verdant, and prices drop.

Autumn (September-November): Crystal-clear skies provide the best visibility for mountain views. Comfortable temperatures and low humidity make this the second-best season after spring. It's also less crowded than spring.

Winter (December-February): High-altitude areas receive snow, making them inaccessible. Lower valleys remain accessible for traditional sightseeing. Festivals like the Punakha Domchoe occur during winter, offering unique cultural experiences.

Our recommendation: October-November combines the best elements of both peak seasons with fewer crowds than spring. The weather is stable, views are clear, and the cultural experience is authentic.
